OPENING EXHIBITION JACOBA VAN HEEMSKERCK

At the commemorative exhibition for Jacoba van Heemskerck, the visitor can follow Jacoba’s development in about thirty works, from the realism of a Boereninterieur via the Luminism and Cubism created in Domburg to her special expressionism and designs for stained glass windows.

Before visitors are in De Zaal, they pass through De Galerij. There are twenty works by contemporary European artists who have a connection with euroart and were inspired by the work of Jacoba or by Jacoba himself. They come from the Netherlands, Belgium, France, Germany, Hungary and – an outsider – Taiwan.

On Thursday, June 29, 2023, the contemporary artists were welcomed in the museum garden by Frederiek Schouwenaar, mayor of the municipality of Veere. Curator Francisca van Vloten showed her around the exhibition. She did the same two days later, during a great opening, with Katlijne Van der Stighelen, professor of art history in Leuven, who opened the exhibition with a very fascinating story. Her lecture will soon be available on this website. During the opening, the contemporary artists surprised the curator with a unique work of art à la Marcel Broodthaers, a wealth of sunflowers and a beautiful poem.
